ICOM changing the entrepreneurial landscape of Pakistan…Channel 7 Communications - Islamabad, Pakistan

The story began with a phone call from the MIT Entrepreneurial Forum local chapter (NUST TIC). They intended to hold a national level business plan competition among the graduate level university students in Pakistan. We had been given a major challenge to promote the event in entire region, which we accepted with great zeal as “Creative Partner”.

Channel 7 came up with an easily recallable one-word name for the event, “Discover”- which says it all. Considering that unemployment is a major problem confronting our country, we gave a theme line, “Prosperity through Entrepreneurship” as a solution for our country’s economic and social problems in the long run. The mission of DISCOVER is “to define a path towards creating a self-sustaining eco-system for higher education and wealth generation”.

In the first round more then 250 teams of public and private universities participated from all over the country. This made Discover undoubtedly the largest business plan competition in the country.  Through attainment of massive public response from all over Pakistan, “Discover” was no longer a university event. It turned into the “Prime Minister’s Entrepreneurial Challenge-2011” as Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Yusuf Raza Gilani, not only consented to title the name of the event with the PM’s Name but also endorsed the event as a yearly entrepreneurial competition and provided required funds.

Using our expertise we were able to help seek out major media groups and other sponsors for the event.  We also generated support for the event from many public sector organizations, universities and non-profit organizations.
