HISTORY

It has been nearly 32 years since Paul Lee left Far East Advertising with the Sony account to establish PMP International in Hong Kong. At that time, John Cohen merged his agency, Extrasia Advertising, into PMP bringing with him clients like Hyatt International, Sea-Land Service, Ricoh copiers, Philippine Airlines and several local accounts, making PMP an east-meets-west company eager to compete with all the big boys.

Soon after this, the agency was invited by New World Developments to pitch against five major agencies for New World Hotels, starting with the 1,100 room China Hotel in Guangzhou. We won the account which became the forerunner of New World Hotel launches all over China. The relationship with the New World Group rapidly grew from strength to strength and resulted in PMP gaining the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center as well as numerous shopping centres, property developments, Hong

Kong’s largest jewellery chain and ferry services, all owned and managed by New World. While Sony was lost after a 20 year relationship and other pioneer clients simply disappeared for one reason or another, PMP won Marriott, Pan Am and Po Fook Shan (a funeral home and crematorium).

There is no doubt that business has became more difficult, and margins have decreased substantially since those good old days, however PMP continues to gain new business and maintain a prestigious reputation within local business circles, as well as with media operators.

ABOUT US

PMP has a staff of 32 professionals and has been the leading independent agency in Hong Kong for many years. A position that Paul and John believe is due largely to the happy environment enjoyed by all staff members and the fact that senior staff members never leave. Paul’s brother, Anthony, who heads-up Account Services and is Chairman of the Hong Kong Independent Advertising Association has been with PMP since day one. Creative Director – David Wong, Media Director, Edward Chin, and three of our executive secretaries have each been with the agency for close to 20 years.  Sherman, Paul’s 38 year old son, is now at PMP and brings with him young, fresh and innovative ideas. This together with Paul's network of prominent friends, ensures the continuation and growth of the agency. PMP is still largely a conventional advertising agency but to further expand our services in these changing times we are currently giving serious consideration to establishing strong IT and Event Management divisions and to placing greater emphasis on PR and Corporate Relations operations.

COMPANY CULTURE

We believe the real success of PMP is due to Paul and John working together for more then three decades and they can honestly say that they have never had an argument and have enjoyed a harmonious business relationship throughout this time. We have strong ethics, are cautious on the types of accounts we handle and strongly believe that our business needs to benefit ourselves, our clients, our staff and our providers. Maintaining a happy and friendly environment for staff to work in is paramount.
