Promenada: Euro-chic shines through the gloom

Challenge:

An Eastern European retail player backed by the Dutch group ECC and with no experience in Asia is about to launch new shopping centers in Chiang Mai and Ho Chi Minh.

Insight:

In markets dominated by local groups, leverage the cachet of a cool European lifestyle brand.

Solution:

Promenada: The European Experience, offering “More Than Just Shopping’’. Selected journalists are invited to a press conference/launch event to unveil the brand in Asia – a good news story of investment during the depths of the global recession.

Results:

Genuine front page was coverage received. Promenada is off and running, with a strong platform to build on ahead of the 2011 opening of its malls.

ECC Real Estate and ECC Investment launched two Promenada mall projects (Thailand and Vietnam) to the press very successfully at separate Press Conferences in Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City.
 
Both events gained substantial press coverage in local and regional media.
The first objective was met successfully.
 
The second business objective of communicating the brand to potential retail brands who may be interested in leasing retail space was also successful. However, success rate in signed leases is unknown as ECC has not shared this information with the agency.
 
The third objective of exposing the brand to potential investors/partners is also unknown at this point as the tough economic conditions and our limited knowledge of the success of these discussions have not been shared by ECC.
 
Overall, the client was extremely happy with our work and our ability to bring the brand concept to life from architectural renderings.
 
In particular the AV show we produced created a clear positioning for the brand and substantial differentiation from competing brands.
