Additional background:
1957: Golley Slater founded. If you have ever wondered what happened to Sgt Stone of the hit TV sitcom Z-Cars, Golley Slater has the answer. The advertising agency began life in a small room opposite Television House in London in 1957. It was founded by John Slater, who played Sgt Stone in the long-running BBC drama, and John Golley, who had previously worked as a BBC executive and his brother Alastair Golley. With their knowledge of the new independent television industry, they formed one of the first advertising agencies to make TV commercials. They produced the first live to air TV ad for Just Rols Pastry in 1958.
2003: Chris Lovell, Andrew Tillard and Simon Freethy buy Golley Slater in a multi-million deal from remaining founder Alastair Golley, who is still a shareholder. CEO Chris Lovell embarks on a significant increase in turnover from £30million in 2004 to £68million in 2008 and a broadening of the business.
