Executive Director Memo

Yes, I know you're still feeling the effects of the financial crisis.  And, yes, I know it’s a long trip and several days out of the office.  I know all that.  But this year it’s especially important for you to come to our International Management Conference in Beijing.

Here's why ...

The meeting is in CHINA.  The country that’s about to be the second biggest economy on the planet.  The country that will dominate economics and politics for the rest of our lives. You need to see it so you can explain it to your staff and clients.  In fact many of your clients may have already been there, are doing business there or want to do business there.  To feel the energy and mission of the Chinese people, you need to be there.

Together with our host agency, Rayken, we've put together an agenda to help you understand China better.  On the first business day of our meeting we'll hear three experts talk about this extraordinary market.  One will cover the history, economy and politics.  Another will talk about how the Chinese do advertising.  A third will talk about how they do public relations and the Net.

On the second business day we'll learn about the latest trends in mobile marketing the fastest growing part of the digital world.  The Asians are way ahead of most of the world in mobile technology.  We'll learn about some new software packages developed for marketing communications by our Finnish colleague being used by some of our European members.  You'll also learn about new Twitter analytic software developed by a North American member available free for you and your clients to use.  And, you will see the introduction of our new and improved ICOM web site.  So it is all digital up to the coffee/phone break.

Because new business is always a hot topic, we'll then see winning pitches from our four regions.  Plus, you'll see Cramer-Krasselt's winning presentation for Crocs, our first global account.

On the third business day we'll meet our new members in Africa and learn why this vast continent is also important to the world's economic future.  Then we'll have a group discussion called, "Here's What I'm Doing Differently this Year ... and Why".  All members will talk about what they learned from surviving the crisis and how it will change the way they do business.  I think it will be another one of those sessions where members say, "I learned enough in the past two hours to pay for the trip."

And finally we'll have our annual meeting where we discuss the state of our network and how it can serve its members better.

But it is not all business.  You'll also see The Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Olympic village and the Great Wall.  If your spouse is along he or she will get to see even more of this great city with the spouses' program.

Again we've packed a size 9 meeting into a size 6 time period.  But there is so much to discuss, so many new members to meet, so many friendships to renew and so much China to see.

If you can only attend one ICOM meeting this year this is the one to go to.  Last year we cancelled this meeting due to the crisis.  We will not do that this year.  Our global family needs a reunion.

So, if you have not signed up, please do it now at https://www.regonline.com/beijing2010.

See you there.
