What a decade that was! The "0's" were a wild ride for everyone. We had highs and lows ... with the volume turned up loud. Maybe because we are getting older that it all seems to go faster. Has it really been a whole decade since we worried about Y2K?
When you look at the many "decade in pictures" retrospectives you realize how much was packed into those 10 years; wars, iPods, tsunamis, earthquakes, tweets, financial crisis, terrorism, avatars, droughts, Wii's, wild fires, space explorations, blogs, smart phones, scandals, hybrids, organics, elections, bankruptcies and more. And, it appears much of the news was bad. But we survived it and hopefully learned a lot through the "0's" will help us in the "10's".

It was an extraordinary decade for ICOM, too. Only 29 of the 69 members who started the decade as ICOM members are still members in today’s' network of 76 members. Where did the others go? Some sold to the multinationals. Some shut down their agencies and retired. A few were asked to leave by the Board because they did not attend meetings and/or pay their dues. Happily, none left to join another independent network.

I prefer to think about the new members since 2000. The ones who joined from markets that were just becoming free. The ones with clients that needed help in other countries. The ones who wanted to learn from members in more developed markets. The ones that wanted to keep current in this dynamic marketing communications business. And, the ones that developed long-lasting relationships at international meetings in Hong Kong, New York, Sao Paulo, Munich, Auckland, Istanbul, Miami and Cancun.
Along with new members we added new resources to ICOM during the last decade; a web site, a digital newsletter and membership directory, a Facebook page, Best Idea prizes, an identity manual, and an EEIG structure in Europe. We updated the By-laws and Policies. We also added a manager of administration, DeAnna Moxley, and manager of finance, Alice Lemoine. All this to keep our 60 year-old network current and relevant for you and your business.
Now, let's get started on the "10's".
