| The mistake: hiring a specialist
Traditional agencies that want to move into the digital age frequently hire a specialist and then declare they are “part of the new media world.”
And digital agencies that want to become strategic advisors to their clients vs. digital project managers frequently hire a senior strategy person from the traditional side and then declare they are suddenly “marketing strategists across all disciplines.”
The problem is that both approaches result in having the specialists isolated from the rest of the agency . . . and the rest of the agency remains just as “limited” as before.
The solution is for 100% of the client-facing agency staff (including the CEO!) to become strategically adept across all disciplines . . . an undertaking that can be accomplished rapidly through several new training techniques.
