AGENCY OWNERSHIP AND HISTORY

Ray Heckendorf was a founding partner of Sleeman, Whittacker, Heckendorf & Potter in 1986.  The agency was re-branded in 1998 and Ray became the principal shareholder of Oddfellows Advertising located in North Sydney, Australia.

THE PLANT

Unlike many agencies, we firmly believe that the best place for senior management is at the coalface, where their experience can be harnessed and utilized to help add real and immediate value to our clients’ business. 

This experience, along with our unique structure allows us to get to more effective communications solutions, faster and more cost effectively than traditional agency structures.

Oddfellows also has a unique physical structure within our premises.  Located in four connected terrace-houses, we have made the strategic decision to co-locate key elements of the production process with our premises.  Consequently the following business units are housed within our building & hard-wired into our systems.

  • @tack – A fully equipped Mac art studio and print production center
  • Ashford Films – Full film production including post.
  • Speed of Sound – Sound recording studio.
  • VVTA – photo-realistic image production of vehicles from CAD drawings.
  • @Odds – Digital Strategy & Production

This co-location has had immediate benefits not only in terms of speed to market, and cost efficiency, but also in terms of the quality of the creative product.

Over time we have learned that the best way to get to great creative solutions quickly is to have the best people. We would describe our creative department as “Six creative directors…. No waiting”.  Everyone in the Oddfellows creative department has held Creative Director level roles in large agencies both here and overseas.
