In 2007, Weyforth-Haas Marketing partnered with Caterpillar Building Construction Products to change their business model to focus on the smaller construction equipment market.
WHM created a new tool to help dealers visualize what their Cat Rental stores might look like after transforming them to better serve the general construction customer. The Simulated Retail Experience video takes the viewer through a virtual transformed Cat Rental Store, introducing a new world with a focus on general construction customers.
Since the new version of the store did not exist yet, the WHM Creative team had to create it. The video uses computer-generated imagery to portray the interior and exterior of a Cat Rental Store that embraces the general construction retail aspects of selling new, used and Allied equipment, work tools, product support solutions and rentals. The store even comes complete with simulated employees and customers.
To truly capture and simulate the global reach of the experience, the WHM team filmed actors in four different languages and placed them into their local settings around the world, resulting in a truly global tool for dealers worldwide. Each different store had virtual signage in the appropriate language. A special thanks to the several ICOM agencies who helped WHM with translations.
The video illustrates the vision of the BCP’s strategy: leveraging the Cat Rental Store to provide a one-stop shop for general construction customers.
