GOLLEY SLATER CONSUMER TRACKER SHOWS WEAK SUPPORT FOR UK GOVERNMENT
As Britain heads toward a hung parliament with the Conservative Party gaining the largest number of seats but not a clear majority and no clarity yet on who will govern Britain, the latest Dialect consumer tracker shows that whoever governs will struggle to win public confidence.
The majority of people questioned for Golley Slater’s Dialect 2 report wanted a change in government yet most respondents don't believe the new government will bring improvements to public services nor that the Labor government has done enough to address big challenges such as care for the elderly focusing instead on issues such as ethnic minorities, equal opportunities and religious tolerance.
Dialect 2 continues to track the impact of digital and traditional media, their consumption and levels of trust, creating a compendium of change for marketers to draw upon. Dialect 2 shows an upward trend in the level of use of new media across the UK, particularly Facebook. But despite the growing passion for new media, traditional media is still king in terms of public trust, for example, national TV news is top of the list in Scotland and England. In London & South East, over 22% of respondents place the greatest trust in national TV, followed by the South West and North West of England where 21% of respondents in both regions trust national TV news more than other news sources.
Between 7% and 10% of respondents across all regions trust radio and of the online news sources monitored, Google ranked highest with trust levels ranging between 6.9% and 3.7%. At a local level, regional newspapers are still top dog, followed by local radio, regional TV and then the internet. The message to media owners, publishers and information providers, is simple, be a single platform publisher at your peril!
