NORTHLICH BUILDS BUZZ FOR THE OHIO LOTTERY’S NEW POWERBALL

To celebrate Powerball’s arrival in Ohio, Northlich created a grassroots consumer engagement campaign aimed to generate excitement and build awareness among consumers about the new game offered by The Ohio Lottery Commission.

Coordinated by Northlich, April 15th marked the Ohio Lottery’s first-ever statewide Powerball buzz events, which featured a series of ten flash mobs staged at a variety of indoor and outdoor venues in cities across the state, including Cincinnati, Columbus, Toledo, Dayton, Cleveland, Youngstown, Canton and Athens. Flash mobs in each city, equipped with audio and video equipment as well as a group of Powerball dancers, engaged with the public while handing out branded sweatbands, cozies, checkbooks and t-shirts to create awareness and excitement among consumers about Powerball.

To build and maintain buzz around the Powerball flash mobs, Northlich created a brief media advisory, aimed to pique the interest of Ohio media outlets in advance of the flash mobs, which included both an invitation to capture footage and photography of the buzz events as well as general Powerball ticket information.

Northlich’s Ohio Lottery Powerball campaign garnered approximately 130 broadcast hits in outlets across Ohio, including WBNS-TV Columbus, WHIO-CBS Dayton, WHIZ-NBC Zainesville, TWOL-ABC Toledo, WXIX-FOX Cincinnati and WOIO-CBS Cleveland/Akron/Canton. Broadcast coverage of the Powerball flash mobs reached more than 8 million viewers between April 13 and 18. Additionally, the buzz events generated Powerball ticket sales throughout Ohio, reaching new and current players while reinforcing the big jackpot message.
