Colle+McVoy - Minneapolis, Minnesota

Colle+McVoy is part of a dynamic team of global communication agencies that launched an international campaign prompting action on climate change at the highly anticipated United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December 2009. Called “Hopenhagen,” this comprehensive and far-reaching campaign allows citizens to become active participants in the climate change dialogue and make their voices heard to world leaders and conference delegates. Colle+McVoy launched the Hopenhagen Web site and is responsible for managing campaign execution in the social media space, including Facebook and Twitter.

Hopenhagen.org made it easy for world citizens to voice support for a resolution that addresses the causes and impacts of climate change. By leaving messages that stated why they had hope for a better planet, the site’s international visitors personalized the climate change issue and the site became a virtual catalogue of global support for legislation.

Global participation on the site encompassed more than 15,000 visitors from 139 countries and territories over the summer months. Ninety percent of participation was positive, generating more than 14,000 messages of hope. The Hopenhagen Facebook fan page served as the third largest traffic source for the site, generating thousands of citizens for the Hopenhagen movement.

At a local level, the City of Copenhagen has adopted the campaign to help promote the city’s unique role as Conference host including the conversion of City Hall Square (Rådhuspladsen) to “Hopenhagen Live.”

As the world eagerly awaits a global, concerted effort to address climate change this December, Colle+McVoy will be watching as Hopenhagen welcomes citizens and visitors around the world.
